FABRIC COLLAGE WORKSHOP Saturday, May 16th; 11am-4pm

I have been working with textile remnants to create new garments for five plus years in my own studio practice. The beginning of this pursuit was driven by creative curiosity. It has now evolved into a practice which speaks to my environmental concerns, the negative impacts of the fast fashion industry, and the creation of one-of-a-kind garments—something which is lacking in the world today.

This workshop will involve the creation of fabric collages onto garments using a variety of hand sewing techniques, both experimental and formal. I will demonstrate the ways in which I approach textiles in a collage practice both creatively and functionally. This workshop is a great way to breathe new life into garments which have been set aside because of stains, holes, and changing styles.

Topics covered in demos will include identifying a variety of weaves, types of stitches both visible and not, composition, color and texture as related to final outcome.

Students will need to provide a garment(s) they wish to create their collage. If you would like to provide your own remnants or textiles which are sacred to you, please bring them!

I will supply textiles, all notions, sewing machines (needles, thread, floss and embroidery hoop).
